P.S. Events Are Not Only For Adults

Frozen Backdrop in BizBash NY

This week we exhibited in New York for BizBash and we decided on showcasing our Frozen backdrop.  It is evident that nowadays kids have a say in the decision making of their event just as much as adults do.  I remember growing up and having no real “say” in what I wanted for my parties.  Actually, I had no say – Period!.  My parents would take care of pretty much everything themselves.  They would handle everything from the décor to the invitation list.  I would be lucky if I ever saw any of my school friends there.  In reality, I saw none. It was always family and family friends.  Well, my parents friends and their children whom instantly would become my friends.  Thinking of it now makes me realize how things have changed and quiet honestly I’m okay that I didn’t have to stress over that in my childhood.

I now see my sister on how she goes on about planning her two girl’s events.  Specifically my god-daughter’s birthday parties and how involved she is with everything.  She is given the option of choosing her own theme all the way to what she wants to eat.  Let’s face it; kids are now playing the role of event planners regardless if parents want to admit it.  They control us- the end!

The event was held at the Renaissance Austin Hotel on Thursday August 14, 2014. Paris Eiffel Tower 5 Night Backdrop at TSE2014

Despite the cold weather, the Special Event Show in Nashville, TN was a big success for us. As always, it was great connecting with old and new event professionals.  The hosting venue, Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, was an amazing setting for such a great event.  In my opinion the word “huge” is the best way to describe such a magnificent property. It boasts over 2,800 guest rooms, climate-controlled glass atriums that enclose all sorts of restaurants and shops, as well as a river and garden with several pathways and bridges.  At times, I even felt as if I was at Disneyland.

Ballroom 1 Backdrop at TSE2014

At our booth, our Black & White Ballroom Backdrop and our Twenties Backdrop, both inspired by the movie the Great Gatsby, were showcased back to back.  In addition, once again we sponsored the performing stage and displayed our Paris Eiffel Tower 5 Night backdrop which was a match made in heaven with Cort’s TSE Live Attendee Lounge featuring their Napoleon Collection.   Their theme was “Viva La Revolucion.”

We’d like to congratulate Leesa Phipps, of Distinctive Events, for winning our Free Backdrop Rental Raffle. Thank you everyone who stopped by our booth and registered.  See you next year in Anaheim, CA!

Stage Backdrops Help Set The Stage

November 21st, 2013

Not sure on how to dress up your stage?  Our stage backdrops allow for any AV companies to offer a wow factor to their clients, especially if their budget does not allow for an LED screen.  Instead of boring black drapes or any color for that matter (my personal opinion), pitch them the idea of a themed backdrop according to the event or their presentation topic.  At the very least if the presentation is dull the audience will appreciate a beautiful backdrop to look at.  Backdrops is a cost effective way to add value to your contracts and create a one of a kind space for your clients.  It’s easier for people to understand the visual impact backdrops can create if they are able to see past examples so make sure you have a library of photos to share with them on hand.

We recently transformed the Celebration Hall Stage at Market Creeks Events and Venues in San Diego, CA with our Twenties 5 Backdrop for the San Diego NACE November Meeting and Annual Showcase.  Market Creek Events & Venues offers a collection of indoor and outdoor spaces to fit all types of events whether it be an intimate gathering to a large-scale conference. All their venues incorporate multicultural art and design, presentation technology and environmentally-friendly operations. Setup was scheduled for the same day of the vendor showcase.  The  venue made it hassle free for everyone by allowing access through the front doors of the Celebration Hall.  Aside from carrying the pipe and base by hand it took one quick cart trip to bring in our  gear.  Below is a quick outline of my total setup time and the equipment I used.

Twenties 5A Backdrop - Stage Backdrops

emilio azevedo photography

  • Setup Time: 20 minutes
  • Backdrop Name:  Twenties 5A Backdrop
  • Backdrop Size:  20’ W X 10’ H
  • Hardware:  Pipe & Base (3 uprights, 2 cross bars and 3 bases)
  • Miscellaneous:   Scissors / Box Cutter / Zip Ties (clear)
  • Man Power: 1 man team (myself)

Almost immediately after hanging the backdrop it created a stunning environment.  And even though the meeting wasn’t themed to anything specific it gave it visual interest and helped add decor.  A few lights were added for ambience by the venues AV team and Tim Altbaum Productions; a gobo projecting a moon and stars and a few up lights around the hall.  And even though the vendor showcase wasn’t themed the backdrop added character to the event.

We carry a large selection of stage backdrops for any size event.  Please keep us in mind for all your backdrop needs. For local customers we also offer pipe and base rentals.

What other suggestions do you have for setting the stage?

Halloween Masquerade Party - Hart of Dixie 2

HART OF DIXIE
“Help Me Make it Through the  Night” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, D) (HDTV)

TAKING ONE FOR THE TEAM —  After Lemon’s (Jaime King) fallout with the Belles, she is blacklisted from the  Junior League Halloween Masquerade party, so she calls her Grandma Bettie (guest  star Maree Cheatham, “Days of Our Lives”) for help and lands herself a date with  another of Alabama’s most eligible bachelors.  Lavon (Cress Williams) has a big  surprise for his anniversary with AnnaBeth (Kaitlyn Black), but when she has a  health scare, she turns to Zoe (Rachel Bilson) to help her out.  Meanwhile,  during the party, George (Scott Porter) has to do damage control with the town  judges and Wade (Wilson Bethel) keeps finding himself in trouble with ineligible  ladies.  Robert Buckley (“One Tree Hill”) guest stars.  Tim Matheson directed  the episode written by Jamie Gorenberg (#304).

Hart of Dixie 3×04 “Help Me Make It Though the Night” aired on Monday, October 28th at 8/7c on The CW.

My favorite line of the night was by George:  “I think you’re getting with every unavailable women you can because you can’t have the one unavailable woman that you want.”

What did you think of this year’s Halloween episode?

We would like to thank everyone who visited our booth!  It was fantastic seeing old friends and meeting new event industry professionals. We had so much fun capturing pictures of everyone in front of our backdrop via our partner Open Air Photobooth.

We received a tremendous amount of positive feedback for both our City Skyline White Backdrop on stage and for our Cotton Club Backdrop in our booth.  Our backdrops are crafted with the notion of different venue heights and are adaptable by simply folding away the excess.  We continue to offer our one of a kind service, custom backdrop rentals.  Our design possibilities are endless! We either carry your backdrop design to meet your conference/event objectives or you can be unique and creative with a backdrop design of your own. Our backdrops will help you keep your event simple, but stunning or take it a higher a level by adding another layer of creativity. Please remember to stay calm and backdrop your event!

2012 BizBash Florida Expo & Awards Recap

April 27th, 2012

Last week I attended the 2012 BizBash Florida Expo & Awards in Fort Lauderdale.  This one-day event is the Florida’s largest gathering of event and meeting professionals, with over 1,500 attendees and 130 exhibiting vendors.

This was our third year exhibiting and it was an exceptional expo for our company. Our main objective was to generate sales leads and raise awareness of Backdrops Beautiful in the event industry.  To help achieve these goals, we purchased a 20’x10’ booth in the exhibit hall to showcase our hand-painted backdrop.  “Seeing is believing,” which is why we always display the actual product our customers can expect to receive when renting from our company. This gives attendees an opportunity to see, touch and feel our backdrops and we’re able to answer any questions they might have.  Our backdrops tend to attract attendees into our booth and sometimes line up to take photographs with their colleagues.

Within the first hour of the show, I observed quite a bit. Most notable was that trade show exhibitors appear to all fall somewhere along one of these two categories:  exhibitors sitting behind their booths, not making eye contact with anyone, texting on their cell phones and waiting for attendees to approach them or exhibitors approaching attendees with open-ended questions related to their pitch!  Many exhibitors offered giveaways to help attract attendee’s interest or provided a unique experience at their booth. We offered a free Kindle Fire and enhanced our booth with some of AFR’s Crystal Collection furniture pieces (thank you Tricia).  Some exhibitors gave away an excess amount of swag, whether it was pens or eco friendly tote bags while others hired great looking models.   However, I can see how certain attendees might find this patronizing or otherwise offensive.

BizBash provides a playground for networking amongst the other exhibitors.  I have been able to meet the most amazing people in the event industry and establish strong business relationships.  Last year I was fortunate enough to be across from Quest Drape and had the opportunity to meet Jackie Becker and her team.  This year I was in need of some pipe and base and some black drape.  At the last minute I reached out to Jackie and without hesitation she had my back.  A big shout out to Jackie Becker from Quest Drape!

In addition to generating sales leads, there are many benefits to participating in the BizBash Florida Expo & Awards. We increase brand awareness, strengthen our relationships with existing customers and are able to keep up-to-date with emerging trends and event technologies. And after all, “seeing is believing” and BizBash provides an engaging platform where attendees can experience firsthand what vendors have to offer!

Destination Event Center – Launch Party

May 27th, 2011

Bubbles Backdrop in Action | Backdrops Beautiful

On May 19, 2011, San Diego’s event professionals, clients, investors, and staff gathered at 1020 Prospect Street Suite 100, a chic, modern event space in La Jolla’s trendy downtown, to celebrate the launch of Destination Event Center.  The venue’s versatility makes it perfect for any private event offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and gives clients the opportunity to customize events and celebrate in style. Many vendors including ourselves donated our services and products for the grand opening.  Our bubbles backdrop was showcased on stage behind the amazing NRG music group.

Destination Event Center boasts over 6,000 sq ft indoor event and meeting space and it can accommodate up to 200 guests. It is a perfect venue for any type of corporate party, wedding, bar/bat mitzvah, product launch party, client appreciation event, or any type of private event and with fewer restrictions than any other Downtown La Jolla event venue.
