How Does Dance Make You Feel?

November 28th, 2018

For many, dance is a passion. A source of creativity. An outlet. A hobby. A lifestyle. Our inspiration for one of our newest designs came from how dance makes us feel. Dance and the dance community can make you feel whole and complete. From ballet to tap dance to hip-hop, jazz, and beyond, all types of dance can fulfill your passion. It’s both personal and communal. Take a look at the design below and let us know what you think.

Dance 31 Flight

Can you see the inspiration behind our design? All of the tiny dancers in different styles of dance unifying together and creating one larger dancer. All of the training, practice, and recitals are all depicted in this design. All walks of life are embraced in the diversity of this design as well. The variety of colors demonstrate the vibrancy of the movement of the dancers. The rhythm of the dancers radiate throughout the backdrop. All of the aspects that make dancers whole come together in one scene. What do you see in this dance centric design?

Dance 25 Splash

Our Dance Splash collection is full of vibrant paint splatter. These dancers are full of so much passion that their movement has created splashes of paint throughout the design. The colorful hues throughout the backdrop are contrasted with the black background. This backdrop was created to capture the beauty of the dancer’s movement.

As our backdrops are hand-painted, we love featuring splashes of paint in our designs. The vibrancy of the paint splatter is evident throughout the design. The contrast of vibrant colors with the black background make for a stunning backdrop. This collection is available in an array of sizes, from 10′ wide x 10′ high to 50′ wide by 22′ high. Perfect for a fun photo op at your studio or as the centerpiece of your stage at your recital!

Tips for Attending the UDMA Shows

September 30th, 2016

This weekend is the kickoff of the United Dance Merchants of America (UDMA) shows. These shows are ideal for dance studio owners and dance teachers to look at the latest trends, choose costumes, and plan their upcoming recitals. We’re super excited for the shows to commence in Worcester, MA. This year there will be four shows – Massachusetts, Georgia, New Jersey, and Illinois. Check out our tips for attending these fun dance shows!

Grab your friends & colleagues

These shows are best when you come with your fellow dance teachers and studio owners. Expect costumes galore, dance accessories a plenty, and everyone passionate about the dance industry. You’ll not only be having a lot of fun, but learning about exciting costume trends, new dance recital themes, and meeting interesting dance vendors.

Plan Ahead!

The UDMA shows are only held once a year, so there’s an emphasis on preparation. Talk with your studio owner and dance teachers about your plan for the upcoming year. A few things to consider:

  • Are you planning a Winter Recital? A Spring Recital?
  • Are you going to have a theme for your recital(s)?
  • Do you have a color scheme you’d like to keep in mind when looking for costumes?

With so many vendors and options, it’s good to come in with a clear mindset of what you’re looking for and what you need inspiration for. We definitely think it would be best to bring:

  • Stickers with your information or business cards. This is by far the easiest way to give your information to companies and to enter to win any raffles. (pssst. at our booth, we’ll be offering awesome discounts and a FREE backdrop rental – so you have to stop by!).
  • Rolling suitcase or shopping cart. This is a move used by the experienced attendee and is definitely recommended. You will pick up so much information from vendors that something that rolls should be the only option you are thinking of bringing. Your back will thank us.
  • Notepad. You’ll need somewhere to take notes – either a physical notepad if you like to write things down (like us) or use your phone. Either way, it will come in handy after the show to look back on.
  • Snacks & Water. These shows are a marathon. You will look through costumes and walk around the show floor, which can be exhausting. Bring snacks, water and cash if you want to buy a snack at the show. It’s the easiest way to keep yourself fueled for the rest of the show without having to leave.

Enjoy the Show & Have Fun!

At the end of the day, these shows are meant to be a lot of fun. You’ll learn a lot, get to chat to other dance teachers and vendors, discuss new and upcoming trends, and create / finalize your plan for the upcoming year. We are so excited for it all to begin. Will you be there? Comment below and let us know which show you’ll be attending! We can’t wait to see you there.

Tips for Planning Your Best Spring Recital Yet

February 29th, 2016

Dance Recital - On The Go Backdrop

It’s almost March, which means Spring is around the corner! Being in backdrops, we love to be involved in different industries that we truly care about. When we think about Spring, we don’t only think about warmer weather and blooming flowers. We know this is THE time for dance recitals. Often dancers practice all year to demonstrate their ability and love for dance in front of their teachers, parents, and friends. There’s nothing better than dancing with your best friends.

Dance Recital - Medieval Village Backdrop

Through all of our years working in the dance industry, we’ve rounded up our tips on how to make your Spring Recital the best one yet!

Choose your Theme & Dare to be Different!

We love, love, LOVE themed recitals. There are SO many incredible and unique themes to choose from. From 80s to A Night at the Movies to Alice in Wonderland to Around the World. The world is truly your oyster in terms of choosing your theme. While we love the classical themed recitals, we also love those teachers that dare to be different. The ones that go above and beyond to conjure up a new theme that few have thought of before. These are our customers that often inspire us to create new, hand-painted backdrops to transform their recitals. These are the trendsetters that we know are ahead of the curve. No matter if your style is more traditional or modern, there’s always a way to create that WOW factor for your recital.

No Theme, No Problem!

Dance Recital - Drapes Purple Stars Backdrop

Not into the whole themed recital world? You’re not alone! We come across as many non-themed recitals, as we do with themed recitals! What’s amazing about not having a theme is that you can create an elegant, picturesque recital that demonstrates your and your dancers love for dance. It’s easy to create a spectacular recital by focusing on the dancers and letting us take care of the rest! There are so many beautiful backdrop options: Drapes, Sparkling Drapes, Drapes with Stars, Dance Splash, Dance Radio, & Dance Watercolor.

Practice Makes Perfect!

Practice, practice, practice! Nothing makes parents more proud than when their children’s hard work and determination pays off through a perfect performance. We all know that practice best prepares your students for success. We love seeing how amazing the recitals turn out because of the hard work and creativity of the studio owners, teachers, and dancers.

Set the Scene for your Recital!

Dance Recital - Fantasy Castle 2 Backdrop

Setting the stage is effortless with using our hand-painted backdrops. Transform your stage into your ideal recital through choosing a perfect backdrop to enhance your dancer’s performance. Our seasoned backdrop consultants can help suggest backdrops to make your recital the best it can be.

Match those costumes!

There are SO many costumes out there that you can choose exactly what you want your dancers to wear to match your theme and scenery. It’s so fun to look through all of the costume catalogs to find the perfect attire.

We love seeing how the recitals come together. Every piece is integral in making the performance a success and we think it’s the best that we get to be a part of it. We can’t wait to see how our backdrops enhance your recitals this year!

UDMA Secaucus, NJ

October 14th, 2009

Backdrops Beautiful would like to thank everyone for stopping by our booth at the UDMA Dance Resource & Costume Show in Secaucus, NJ. The 3 winners of our $300 off backdrop rental raffle will be announced via email.

The Secaucus show was outstanding! Some school owners were so excited when they viewed our highlighted themed backdrops in our brochure that they decided they didn’t want to waste any more time researching for their upcoming dance recitals and booked from us on the spot!

We showcased our Dance Ballerina Backdrop as requested by our customers’. Rather than displaying a digital backdrop, we created a 10 x 10 version of our product to provide customers the opportunity to see, touch and feel the quality of the painted backdrop they will receive upon ordering from us. This backdrop attracts many people because of the vibrant colors and whimsical appeal that can create an impact at any dance recital.
