Destination Event Center – Launch Party

May 27th, 2011

Bubbles Backdrop in Action | Backdrops Beautiful

On May 19, 2011, San Diego’s event professionals, clients, investors, and staff gathered at 1020 Prospect Street Suite 100, a chic, modern event space in La Jolla’s trendy downtown, to celebrate the launch of Destination Event Center.  The venue’s versatility makes it perfect for any private event offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and gives clients the opportunity to customize events and celebrate in style. Many vendors including ourselves donated our services and products for the grand opening.  Our bubbles backdrop was showcased on stage behind the amazing NRG music group.

Destination Event Center boasts over 6,000 sq ft indoor event and meeting space and it can accommodate up to 200 guests. It is a perfect venue for any type of corporate party, wedding, bar/bat mitzvah, product launch party, client appreciation event, or any type of private event and with fewer restrictions than any other Downtown La Jolla event venue.

NACE / ISES San Diego Annual Holiday Party 2010

December 9th, 2010

It is definitely OKAY in my book to let loose once in a while. Attending the NACE / ISES San Diego Annual Holiday Party on December 7, 2010 at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego gave us all the opportunity to unwind and have fun. And when it comes to photo booths, our sales team at Backdrops Beautiful is definitely not shy! Our co-workers Peter Armado, Donna Gonzales, Angelie Cavitt and myself (Jose D. Ramirez) had a blast with Classy Photobooth.

I decided to do a quick photo compilation of our best work. We pride ourselves on working hard, but we definitely know how to rock an event! Happy Holidays Everyone!

The Canadian Special Events & Meetings Expo (CSEME) Recap

April 26th, 2010

We had a great time exhibiting at The Canadian Special Events & Meetings Expo (CSEME) in Toronto this year.   CSEME 2010 provided us the opportunity to meet our existing clients F2F and new ones as well. It is imperative to exhibit in our industry to continue to build on our relationships and establish new partnerships.  We understand attendees are always looking for new products and it is why we focus on exhibiting at many industry shows to promote our new backdrop designs and to obtain feedback for new ideas.

For CSEME, we decided to showcase our custom paparazzi backdrop to highlight our friends from Croce Consulting beautiful table setting.  They did an amazing job creating a retro Hollywood theme! Three lucky attendees won a free backdrop rental.  However, all attendees that stopped by our booth received our Canada ROGO Show special:  Rent One Backdrop Get One Free.

We found that CSEME is a great opportunity for attendees to learn from event professionals in the business through many educational sessions.  There were many great seminars that offered marketing tips and event design education for all levels.  The seminar speakers consisted of David Merrell, Debbie Meyers, Jaclyn Bernstein, Jared Golberg and many more.

We thank all our friends who stopped by our booth and look forward to working with you on your next event.

Maximize your trade show sponsorship with Foursquare

April 9th, 2010

Backdrop Warp Blue Backdrops Beautiful

As we all know we sometimes get bombarded with sponsorship opportunities at the many trade shows we exhibit.  In an effort to maximize our brand awareness we usually sponsor one of the many available opportunities when our budget allows it.  I think it’s important that we do more to capitalize on our sponsorships.  In fact, it is essential we find creative ways to expand our exposure at these events.   There are things we can do to create an experience rather than just a glimpse of a sign with our logo and/or name that we pay for to be seen throughout the conference/tradeshow.  We have the technology and it is up to us to brainstorm and create an interactive experience for our prospective clients to engage and take something more than just a 5 minute sales pitch and our literature.

For example, let’s discuss the possibility of creating a virtual event within the expo for the sponsors.  Depending on the sponsorship and tradeshow, you can suggest to the show host to set up a foursquare event prior to the tradeshow to allow plenty of time to promote.  The event would consist of the already participating sponsor companies and the expo attendees. Each company would be assigned a virtual booth space by the coordinator setting up a venue on Foursquare to reflect their booth.  If your show host doesn’t have a clue on how to set up a venue, refer them here: Eric Lukazewski from Echelon Design Inc. recently posted “A Practical Guide to Creating foursquare Events.”

To encourage attendees to visit each sponsor, there would have to be incentives at every booth with a chance to be entered into the grand prize raffle upon completing every check-in.  The booth incentive can be a special offer or an extra discount that could be combined with your ongoing promotion for your product or service.  The grand prize could be a trendy gadget such as the iPad that could be purchased in advance by the host at the expense of the participating sponsors.

Procedure for the event:

  1. Attendees would need check-in at every booth and include in their shout out an assigned hashtag that would be provided by the tradeshow host to reflect the expo’s name (this would amplify the buzz, not just on foursquare, but also on twitter – given that the attendee also has a twitter account).
  2. The participating sponsor would then provide each attendee a unique code that they would also need to post via the “add a tip” function for every virtual booth they visit.

Attendees would need to make sure to stop at every participating booth to be automatically entered into the raffle.  The winner could then be announced at one of the tradeshow events or gala.

If the tradeshow hosting company decides not to participate, you can easily team up with a handful of exhibiting vendors and co-manage the event.

In exchange for a virtual check-in, the attendees receive real incentives and take home a unique experience!  How have you implemented social media to maximize your sponsorship investment?

Event Solutions / Catersource Conference & Tradeshow Recap

March 25th, 2010

We exhibited at the 2010 Event Solutions / Catersource Conference & Tradeshow in Las Vegas for the first time.  It was a great experience and will definitely continue to participate in the years to come.  We decided to showcase one of our many Alice in Wonderland themed backdrops and framed it with trussing to display our product in a professional setting.  Our trussing was provided by one of our partners, “Rhythm Entertainment,” based out of Ontario, CA.

As product sponsors for “Anthology Event 2010,” we partnered up with Nick Apap from the Royce Prop Shop and designed a custom backdrop for the event.  Nick’s vision was to create an ambiance of “mad scientists” by incorporating a laboratory backdrop for the demo stage on how to create frozen ice cream.  He also adapted our Fire backdrop into the main stage where performers entertained the guests later that evening.  Nick was one of the finalists for the Spotlight Awards for “Creative Director of the Year.”  In appreciation of our sponsorship for that event, Nick and Royce designed a table setting exclusively for our booth which further accented our beautiful Alice in Wonderland theme.

Our goal was to showcase and educate event professionals how a backdrop can accent any event by thinking outside the box and working together with an event company.  In speaking with many catering businesses and chefs we were able to teach them that their food presentations and/or buffet tables can be accentuated with our product and giving their clients a bit more and gaining more business.  It’s very important to not just pitch your product on what it can do for them but to also show them and have them see the big picture.  At the end, we conquered so much more and are looking forward to working with other event companies in our upcoming shows.

Our raffle at the show was a Nintendo Wii and the Alice in Wonderland Video Game.  Out of the 897 registrations we received, we had one lucky winner:  Legendary Events.  Congratulations Legendary Events!

The Special Events Show 2010: Reflections

January 19th, 2010

Beatles Backdrop | Backdrops Beautiful

Last week I attended the Special Events Show (TSE) in New Orleans, LA. I’ll post more later on some detailed observations, but I did not want to delay getting some initial thoughts posted.

First, everyone was talking about how much smaller TSE Show was than previous years. Some companies said they had great shows while others said the show was a relative disappointment for them. The show traffic was good in our aisle and the sponsorship of the lounge and stage backdrops helped direct traffic to our booth significantly. We had a lot of event professionals come by and say hello.

Number one reason to attend The Special Events Show as an exhibitor is to provide event professionals the opportunity meet you face-to-face and to test your product. “Seeing, touching and testing” is the most reliable way of determining if your product is the best option for the event professional. With over 6,000 registered visitors, 200 exhibitors and a multitude of seminars, everyone was eager to learn how to make their event more stunning.

Here are some of the companies that exhibited at TSE Show 2010 in NOLA:

ISES
NACE
Pink Inc.
SnapLock
Dazian, LLC
Amy’s Orchids
Catch The Moment
Backdrops Beautiful
AFR Event Furnishings
Event Planners Association
Association of Bridal Consultants
Freeman Audio Visual Solutions
Wedding Industry Professionals Association

The Special Events Show 2011 will be held in Phoenix, AZ.

San Diego MPI Holiday Party

January 7th, 2010

Backdrops-David Patrone on Stage

The San Diego Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (SDMPI) held its annual holiday party on December 8, 2009 with a Golden Age of Las Vegas theme. The event took place at the beautiful U.S. Grant Hotel in the historic Gaslamp Quarter. Everyone was serenaded back into time by the smooth crooning of Old Blue Eyes and the rest of the Rat Pack.

The evening began with the sophisticated sounds of Sinatra, cocktails at old fashion pricing, and the opportunity to bid on fabulous silent auction items. Following cocktail hour, attendees moved into the Celestial Ballroom for an elegant plated dinner along with an entertaining dinner show highlighting San Diego’s Premier Male Jazz Vocalist and Master of Ceremonies David Patrone. The nostalgic evening concluded with the much anticipated annual live auction by the professional Pierre Charmasson. All proceeds from the silent and live auction benefited the children of the Monarch School. The event helped raise over $6000 in cash.

Monarch School is a remarkable San Diego school that, along with its committed team of teachers, administration and volunteers, is dedicated to providing homeless and at-risk children with an accredited education while caring for their basic needs. Today, more than 100 kids between the ages of 7 and 18 are enrolled at Monarch School and SDMPI is proud to support their efforts.

The event was a huge success thanks to the Holiday Committee and the vendors who donated their time and services. The holiday committee worked very hard and dedicated many hours toward making the event special and memorable. Rita and the staff of the U.S. Grant Hotel provided a decadent dinner and five star service. Mercedes and the Event Supplier Inc. team did an amazing job with the spectacular décor. It was a breathtaking moment walking into the ballroom and seeing the transformation. The linens, flowers, chair covers, etc. were exquisite. Backdrops Beautiful provided all the beautiful themed backdrops.

2010: New Year, New Opportunities

December 31st, 2009

New Year’s Eve is the celebration that commemorates the beginning of a new year.  For some, 2009 was a trying year yet we learned new ways to survive in an ongoing recession.  New technological opportunities boomed allowing companies to reach new masses.  Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and blogging sites took over conventional communication methods and a new phenomenon emerged.

As we get ready to kick start the new year, we should take a little time to reflect on what we want to tackle in the upcoming year. Positive thinking is the key to success.  It is helpful to set goals and stay focus to accomplish these objectives.  We hope that the new year is filled with creative inspiration, new business opportunities and a healthy lifestyle.

The Backdrops Beautiful Way for 2010:

Budget – Learn to work with lean budgets
Experiment – Don’t be afraid to try new strategies in reaching a new audience
Adapt – Every customer is different
Understand – Understand current trends and utilize modern technology
Target – Find the niche that works in today’s times
Inspiration – Be creative and let your imagination inspire
Focus – Listen and engage with your customers
Unite – connect with others and establish new partnerships to maximize exposure
Learn – Continue to develop new concepts and expand on industry knowledge

Backdrops Beautiful is extremely grateful to have met so many wonderful and creative people this past year.  We established new business partnerships and gained new client relations by becoming members of elite organizations such as ISES, MPI, NACE and UDMA.  We attended many meetings and dinner events that allowed us to create brand awareness and showcase our backdrops.  These organizations have given us the opportunity to work with many talented professionals in various industries and we look forward to being more involved in the upcoming year.

Additionally, we exhibited at many tradeshows and will be no different in the year to come.   Our participation at tradeshows such as the Special Events Show, Dance Teacher Summit, Rhee Gold’s Dance Life Teacher Conference, Dance Teacher Web Conference & Expo and UDMA’s Dance Resource & Costume Shows gave us the opportunity to meet with all our existing clients and meet new ones. These shows allow us to work on a personal level with everyone and obtain feedback to create new backdrops in line with today’s trends.

We wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year.

Home for the Holidays Event inspired by our Christmas Backdrops

December 21st, 2009

Visions Display 1

Visions Display Inc. transformed an empty venue space into a cozy Christmas mansion interior by using Christmas backdrops. They found that the best way to create a believable life style setting in a room 300’ X 90’ was to start with an inspirational piece. Our mansion view backdrops became the foundation pieces of this wonderful event. Then to fully create the scene, they added red velour drapery and tie backs of fresh greens and flowers. In front of the drapery, they accented the room even further with 10’ decorated trees and chandeliers to add the final touches. The goal was to create a 90 degree mansion interior and the overall impact was effective and convincing.

Wishing you a beautiful holiday season!
