“Whenever I get depressed with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion’s starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it’s not particularly newsworthy or dignified, but it’s always there- fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from people on board were messages of hate or revenge- they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaking suspicion- love actually is all around.” This famous quote comes from the well-known movie, Love Actually, and discusses the hidden truth about airports. The scene that meets our eyes in this Airport Boarding Gate 1 backdrop is an empty gate, but try to imagine it filled with people. What do you see. What comes to mind for most of us is people embracing, friends greeting each other, and family reuniting. This may just be a room in a large building, but it’s a setting that brings people together. Our artists have carefully airbrushed this design to create a real feel. Peering out the window of the airport we see what we would really see at an airport- a runway complete with airplanes preparing to board, maintenance trucks circling the drive, and a lot of empty space.
