Donating A Heart on Valentine’s Day

February 9th, 2012

Backdrop Hearts 1

This Valentine’s Day give from your heart to help save a life.   Backdrops Beautiful is sponsoring a heart transplant for a patient in Ethiopia.  As we move forward on this journey, we will share our path with everyone, bringing you face-to-face with the patient through our very own experience.

HOW WE GOT INVOLVED:

Shaun Goldstone is the reason why Backdrops Beautiful is sponsoring a patient in need of a heart.  If you’re wondering if he’s related to our owner Ilana Goldstone, you are correct.  Shaun is one of Ilana’s two sons; Shaun is the youngest, Jonathan the oldest.   Shaun graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with high honors in June of 2010.  He graduated with a Bachelors of Science in molecular and cellular biology and has taken a year off to make a difference in Ethiopia before going to medical school.  He joined JDC’s world-acclaimed medical director, Dr. Rick Hodes in his home town of Addis Ababa as his assistant were he provides medical care to patients of all religions and ethnicities, from all over Ethiopia.

Shaun Goldstone

Dr. Rick Hodes is an American doctor who has dedicated over 28 years of his life serving the underprivileged in Ethiopia. Dr. Rick Hodes mainly treats spine, cardiac, and cancer patients.  At the moment, there is no known explanation of why Ethiopia hosts an abundance of patients with tuberculosis of the spine.  As far as cardiac issues, they’ve encountered almost everything including a patient with Ebstein’s Anomaly which is an extremely rare condition.  From the Mother Teresa Clinic in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Dr. Hodes sends his patients to either India for cardiac surgery or to Ghana for spinal surgery.

Dr. Rick Hodes, Shaun Goldstone and 13 Spine Patients

WHY WE GOT INVOLVED:

Dr. Rick Hodes ensures that 100% of all donations are for the patients’ well being. He is an exemplary humanitarian as he himself has donated significantly to the project including adopting 5 children.  Ilana Goldstone was moved when she visited her son in Ethiopia and saw first hand some of the things her son Shaun does for Dr. Rick Hodes and the JDC.  Upon her return she decided that Backdrops Beautiful would become involved, and started with our first heart.

In India, heart surgery is about 10% of the price in the United States. This Valentine’s Day instead of buying a gift, consider making a donation on behalf of your loved one and help a patient get closer to having a healthy heart.

A Few Words From Backdrops Beautiful President

January 19th, 2012

It was a thrilling challenge and accomplishment launching Backdrops Beautiful less than 4 years ago. I myself was taken aback at the rate of growth in the first year alone. Luckily, I’m a “sporty” individual as I mastered jumping hurdles during these formative years!

We pride our company on both product and service, surpassing the expectation of our customers. We will go above and beyond creating the ultimate customer experience.

Our success has enabled us to reach out to the less fortunate and support various charitable organizations.  Giving back to the community and the military is a significant part of our company.  We have new ideas planned for 2012 and believe it is going to be an exciting year. That said, I wish everyone a Happy New Year, with only good health, joy and success in all your endeavors.

7 Characters Or Less

February 15th, 2011

Backdrops Beautiful Personalized Plates

We all love to personalize our bodies and material things whether we do it with tattoos, piercings, clothing, vehicles, etc.  In most cases, we have a large canvas to work with such as our bodies and cars which make it really easy to express ourselves as individuals.  With most people, we tend to learn a lot about them by these branding messages or artwork displays.  But what happens when we personalize our vehicle plates?  If Twitter users think they have it tough with 140 characters try 7!

This morning on my drive to work I realized how many people personalize their vehicle plates.  As I came to the freeway entrance, I came across a white BMW with plates that read, “HRMNGR.”  The driver was a middle aged woman wearing what appeared to be a gray suit, a white collared shirt, and some trendy glasses.  Without me knowing anything about this woman, her message sort of fits who she is at first glance.  Her personalized plate message was clear and I was able to read it effortlessly which is why it got my attention.  I can almost assume this person has her ideal job and is happy to express who she is in the world.

On the contrary, I also came across a handful of vehicles that at times, was almost impossible for me to guess their message.  Isn’t the point to share something with everyone that is about you or something that has meaning to you? I understand that it is difficult and it can become a challenge to try to personalize your plates because by now most common phrases have been taken, but when I have to struggle to read and make it out it’s not worth the effort. In most states, no special punctuation symbols are permitted, i.e. comma, period, hyphen, exclamation point, question mark, etc.  Trying to express yourself in 7 characters or less is no joke!  I’ve see some interesting personalized plates on the road and you can definitely see that some people spend quite some time in working out the layout.  Sometimes the message is very clear and others you need to work to decipher the message.

Whether you are going to personalize your vehicle plates for personal or corporate, in doing so make sure that your message is clear and it is not lost in translation.  Do you think this is strategy or has the individual failed by making it too personal for their own audience?

2010: New Year, New Opportunities

December 31st, 2009

New Year’s Eve is the celebration that commemorates the beginning of a new year.  For some, 2009 was a trying year yet we learned new ways to survive in an ongoing recession.  New technological opportunities boomed allowing companies to reach new masses.  Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and blogging sites took over conventional communication methods and a new phenomenon emerged.

As we get ready to kick start the new year, we should take a little time to reflect on what we want to tackle in the upcoming year. Positive thinking is the key to success.  It is helpful to set goals and stay focus to accomplish these objectives.  We hope that the new year is filled with creative inspiration, new business opportunities and a healthy lifestyle.

The Backdrops Beautiful Way for 2010:

Budget – Learn to work with lean budgets
Experiment – Don’t be afraid to try new strategies in reaching a new audience
Adapt – Every customer is different
Understand – Understand current trends and utilize modern technology
Target – Find the niche that works in today’s times
Inspiration – Be creative and let your imagination inspire
Focus – Listen and engage with your customers
Unite – connect with others and establish new partnerships to maximize exposure
Learn – Continue to develop new concepts and expand on industry knowledge

Backdrops Beautiful is extremely grateful to have met so many wonderful and creative people this past year.  We established new business partnerships and gained new client relations by becoming members of elite organizations such as ISES, MPI, NACE and UDMA.  We attended many meetings and dinner events that allowed us to create brand awareness and showcase our backdrops.  These organizations have given us the opportunity to work with many talented professionals in various industries and we look forward to being more involved in the upcoming year.

Additionally, we exhibited at many tradeshows and will be no different in the year to come.   Our participation at tradeshows such as the Special Events Show, Dance Teacher Summit, Rhee Gold’s Dance Life Teacher Conference, Dance Teacher Web Conference & Expo and UDMA’s Dance Resource & Costume Shows gave us the opportunity to meet with all our existing clients and meet new ones. These shows allow us to work on a personal level with everyone and obtain feedback to create new backdrops in line with today’s trends.

We wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year.

Home for the Holidays Event inspired by our Christmas Backdrops

December 21st, 2009

Visions Display 1

Visions Display Inc. transformed an empty venue space into a cozy Christmas mansion interior by using Christmas backdrops. They found that the best way to create a believable life style setting in a room 300’ X 90’ was to start with an inspirational piece. Our mansion view backdrops became the foundation pieces of this wonderful event. Then to fully create the scene, they added red velour drapery and tie backs of fresh greens and flowers. In front of the drapery, they accented the room even further with 10’ decorated trees and chandeliers to add the final touches. The goal was to create a 90 degree mansion interior and the overall impact was effective and convincing.

Wishing you a beautiful holiday season!

Backdrops Beautiful will transform your event

November 18th, 2009

We are proud to feature one of our client’s artistic visualization. They converted an empty hall space into a fall forest wonderland. Together we designed 9 backdrops showcasing different settings of the Woodlands. Each backdrop was hand painted side by side to capture a 360° panoramic ambiance. Even though our Woodlands Backdrops are a part of a series, they can also be rented as independent backdrops or as a set of panels depending on what images you prefer for your own event.

Christmas Backdrops – Preparing for the holidays

November 17th, 2009

Xmas Home Backdrop

The holiday’s countdown has begun. In preparation of all the festivities, we should start our holiday decorating early. It is easy to feel the stress if you don’t prepare ahead of time.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and before you know it, Christmas will be sneaking up on us. The holidays are a time to gather with family and friends and give thanks. It’s also a time to give to those less fortunate and get involved in our communities. The holidays bring us the joy of giving to help those in need while being thankful for our own blessings.

Christmas is the most anticipated holiday of the year but it can also be the most stressful season; especially in today’s economy. Children enjoy the excitement of decorating and waiting for Santa to arrive.

Santa always plans ahead and makes his list early. He also plans a strategic route for his reindeer to make sure he doesn’t miss a single person. At Backdrops Beautiful we are working around the clock, like Santa’s little helpers, to make sure everyone’s backdrop arrives in time for their event. The holidays always add worrisome to our customers which is why we have strategically planned our shipping process for this time of year.

Do you have a holiday backdrop in mind but have a small decor budget? Why purchase when you can rent and still get the backdrop you envision. Give us 7 – 10 business days and we will work on your design together.

Whether you’re planning a small family event or a larger party, we can help you cut down decor cost with one of our Christmas backdrops. Plan ahead a theme party and give everyone the opportunity to participate. This will make your event more fun for all.

Wendy’s “You Know When It’s Real”

November 9th, 2009

Wendy’s goes back to basic with its new ad campaign. It has removed its focus off the iconic red wig and back on the product itself; the juicy, sizzling, and unfrozen square patty. And all because “it’s real!” versus some of its competitors frozen patties. The chain ad campaign also included a “30 seconds of Wendy’s” video contest on YouTube. They had a total of 21 winners. Check out the results here.

Our highway backdrop is showcased at the end of the video as it appears a young guy is riding a bike down Route 66. The camera then pulls back to reveal that our backdrop is a stage flat being towed by production staff. As it passes, it reveals the bicyclist riding through a production lot, and showing the Wendy’s logo sign on a building to the right.
